Jamiroquai - Heels of Steel Tour

Published

PLASA’s LSi Magazine, January 2026

Location

O2, London

I was first introduced to Jamiroquai in 1993 while listening to Emergency On Planet Earth on vinyl in the next door Aberystwyth University halls room of my good friend Dave Roberts. (Dave still recalls needing to find a piece of paper to spell "Jamiroquai" when ordering the album from the excellent Andy's Records in Aber!) I've loved the band since that first listen.

Fast forward 32 years (ouch), and I found myself listening to Jamiroquai at their soundcheck at London's O2 with Jay Kay in front of me. In December I had the joy of meeting the production team behind The Heels of Steel tour for the cover story of this month’s PLASA LSi Magazine.

And what a team it is - including Vince Foster on lighting and video, Rick Pope at FOH, and Warren Grimsley and Paul Keeble on monitors.

I need to say a huge thanks to the guitar legend Rob Harris for making the original intro. What a band - tight, improvisational, and keeping the creative team constantly on their toes.

The article explores the story of that improvisation and the creative flexibility needed - there’s strictly no timecode. Plus Vince’s brilliant story of cycling to Knebworth to land his first break with Led Zeppelin, Rick’s incredible three decades of experience across Jamiroquai’s live and studio sound, the secrets of the new in-ear monitor setup from Warren and Paul, and the visual identity born from Jay Kay's hand-drawn sketch and four-word brief: Egyptian. Cosmic. Paradise. Disco.

A huge thanks also to manager Charlie Charlton for facilitating everything!

I hope you enjoy reading the article!
